एक विवाह मंडप जहाँ बुद्ध आये थे।

එක් කුලදැරියක ආවාහ කොට ගෙණ ඇයගේ මවුපියෝ මගුල් දවසෙහි දානය පිණිස බුදුරජානන් වහන්සේට ආරාධනා කළහ. උන්වහන්සේ භික්‍ෂු සමූහයාත් සමග එහි මගුල් ගෙට වැඩම කොට පණවා තිබූ ආසනයේ වැඩ හුන් සේක.
ඒ කුල කුමරිය ද භික්‍ෂු සඞ්ඝයා වහන්සේට පැන් පෙරා දීම් ඈ කුදු මහත් වතාවත් සොයා බලා කරන්නී දාන ශාලාවෙහි තැන තැන හැසුරුනී ය. ඇයගේ ස්වාමිපුත්‍රයා මෙසේ වතාවත් කරමින් හැසුරුණු සිය බිරියගේ “ඇඟපත කදිම ය, මුහුණ පැහැපත්ය, කෙස් වැටිය මොනරපිල් කළඹක් සේ ය, දත් මුතු ඇට වැනිය, පියවුරු නෙරා සිටියේ ය, පා ඉතා යහපත්ය” යි ඒ ඒ අවයව දෙස බලමින් සිතමින් එහි රැඳී සිටියේ ය. මෙසේ බිරියගේ ඒ ඒ අඟපසඟ රාග විසින් බලමින් සිටි ඔහුගේ සිත්තුළ රාගය නැගී ගත්තේ ය. රාගයෙන් මැඩුනු මෙතෙමේ නුවණින් ගිලිහුනේ බුදුරජුන්ට වේවයි අසූ මහ සව්වන්ට වේවයි කිසිත් උවැටනක් කිරීමෙහි අපොහොසත් ව ගියේ “අත දිගු කොට බිරිය අල්ලා ගණිමි” යි සිතමින් සිටියේ ය. එවේලෙහි බුදුරජානන් වහන්සේ ඔහුගේ අදහස් දැන ඔහුට ඒ කුලදැරිය නො පෙණෙන ලෙසක් කළ සේක. එවිට ඔහු සිය බිරිය නො පෙණීගියෙන් බුදුරජුන් දෙස බලන්නට වන. උන්වහන්සේ තමන් වහන්සේ දෙස බලා සිටි ඔහුට “දරුව! රාගය තරම් ගින්නෙක් ද්වේෂය තරම් අපරාධයෙක් ස්කන්‍ධපරිහරණය තරම් දුකෙක් නැත්තේ ය, එසේ ම නිවන්සුව තරම් සුවයෙකුත් නැතැ” යි වදාරා මේ ධර්‍මදේශනාව කළ සේක.

නත්‍ථි රාගසමො අග්ගි
නත්‍ථි දොසසමො කලී,
නත්‍ථි ඛන්ධසමා දුක්ඛා
නත්‍ථි සන්තිපරං සුඛන්ති.

රාගය හා සම වූ ගින්නෙක් නැත. 
ද්වේෂය හා සම වූ අපරාධයෙක් නැත. 
ස්කන්‍ධ හා සම වූ දුක් නැත. 
නිවනට වැඩි තරම් වූ සුවයෙක් නැත.

ධර්‍මදේශනාව අවසානයෙහි ඒ කුලදැරිය හා කුලදරු සෝවන් ඵලයෙහි පිහිටියහ. එකල්හි බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ ඔවුනොවුන් දක්නා ලෙසට ඍද්ධිය හළ සේක.

ධම්මපදට්ඨකථාව ඇසුරෙනි 

A certain noblewoman was engaged to be married, and her parents invited the Buddha to alms on her wedding day. He, along with a group of monks, went to the wedding hall and sat down on the seat that had been prepared.

The noblewoman, having poured water for the monks, went around the alms hall, looking for the alms, and performing austerities. Her husband, who was thus performing austerities, looked at his wife's body, thinking, "Her face is beautiful, her hair is like a peacock's comb, her teeth are like pearls, her breasts are prominent, and her feet are very beautiful," and he remained there, looking at each part of her. Thus, while he was looking at each part of his wife with lust, lust arose in his mind. Overwhelmed by lust, he lost his wisdom and was unable to do anything to the Buddha or the eighty-eight great sages. He was thinking, “I will reach out and grab my wife.” At that time, the Buddha, knowing his thoughts, made him not see the girl. Then he looked at the Buddha without seeing his wife. The Buddha, looking at him, said, “Son! There is no fire like lust, no crime like hatred, no suffering like the cessation of the aggregates, and no happiness like Nibbana.”

There is no passion, no sin, no pain, no happiness like the pain of sorrow.

There is no fire equal to lust.

There is no crime equal to hatred.

There is no suffering equal to the aggregates.

There is no greater happiness than Nibbana.

At the end of the sermon, the noblewoman and the nobleman were seated in the fruit of the lotus. At that time, the Buddha saw them as they saw each other.

एक लड़की की शादी हो रही थी और उसके माता-पिता ने बुद्ध को उसकी शादी के दिन भिक्षा के लिए आमंत्रित किया। वह भिक्षुओं के एक समूह के साथ विवाह भवन में प्रवेश किया और तैयार किये गये आसन पर बैठ गये।

वह राजकुमारी भी भिक्षुओं के लिए जल डालती थी, और वह भिक्षागृहों की खोज करती थी तथा भिक्षा-गृह में घूम-घूमकर महान भिक्षा-स्थान की खोज करती थी। उसका पति, जो इस प्रकार व्यवहार कर रहा था, वहीं खड़ा होकर अपनी पत्नी के प्रत्येक अंग को देखता हुआ सोचने लगा, "इसका शरीर सुन्दर है, इसका मुख गोरा है, इसके बाल मोर की कंघी के समान हैं, इसके दाँत मोतियों के समान हैं, इसके स्तन उभरे हुए हैं और इसके पैर बहुत सुन्दर हैं।" इस प्रकार, जब वह अपनी पत्नी के रोम-रोम को वासना से देखता था, तो उसके हृदय में वासना उत्पन्न हो जाती थी। वासना से अभिभूत होकर, इस व्यक्ति ने अपनी बुद्धि खो दी और बुद्ध या अस्सी महान लोगों को प्रसन्न करने के लिए कुछ भी करने में असमर्थ था। वह सोच रहा था, "मैं आगे बढ़कर अपनी पत्नी को पकड़ लूंगा।" उस समय बुद्ध ने उसके विचार जानकर उसे उस कन्या को देखने से रोक दिया। फिर उसने अपनी पत्नी की ओर न देखते हुए बुद्ध की ओर देखा। उन्होंने उसकी ओर देखा और कहा, “बच्चे! उन्होंने यह उपदेश देते हुए कहा, "वासना के समान कोई अग्नि नहीं है, घृणा के समान कोई अपराध नहीं है, धन के त्याग के समान कोई दुःख नहीं है, तथा निर्वाण के समान कोई सुख नहीं है।"

मैं प्रेमी नहीं हूं.

मैंने कुछ भी ग़लत नहीं किया है,

बिना दर्द के कोई दुःख नहीं होता।

रात शांतिपूर्ण और खुशनुमा है।

वासना के बराबर कोई आग नहीं है।

घृणा के बराबर कोई अपराध नहीं है।

स्कन्धों के बराबर कोई दुःख नहीं है।

निब्बान से बड़ा कोई उपचार नहीं है।

धर्मोपदेश के अंत में, वह कुलीन महिला और उसके बेटे सोवन फल में बैठे थे। उस समय, बुद्ध ने अपनी आँखें खोलीं ताकि वे एक-दूसरे को देख सकें।
