Bahun Shassa Mabhi nimmitha 

Sayu danthan.,

Girimekalan Uditha Gora

Danadhi Dhamma Vidhina 

Jithawa Munindo ,

Than Thejasa Bawathu The

Jaya Mangalanee .  


Meaning - 

Under the Sacred Bodhi Tree by Wonderous Liberality,  The Buddha Achieved his victory.

 When Mara the Fierce Lord of Hell, with all his dreadful troops, released a 

Thousand flashing Swords, which stuck in the dreadful hour to defeat Buddha,

 With his War Elephant “Giri Mekala “ , The Sage defeated Mara or the Evil Lord With his Meritorious Powers of Determination, emerging Victorious and Was 

 Enlightened as Buddha. Thus May these  Powers of Victory be bestowed upon us

Meaning -

Now the Buddha The Enlightened One set out all over the Universe to Teach his

Doctrine to relieve all Beings from suffering.On such an occasion a Demon Chief called

"Alalawaka" came up against him threatening and Breathing Fire against him.

Though it was a terrible Tussel the Enlightened one, the Buddha with his Patience and tranquility once again defeated the Demon-Yakka by achieving a Glorious Victory.

Thus May these Powers of Victory be bestowed upon us.

Meaning -

Thus passing from Town to Town, preaching the Truth of Life and the Universe,he was

confronted with a Fierce Elephant set against him by his enemies, but the Enlightened one

with his supernatural powers and compassin towards the Beast, subdued him and the Beast

Knelt before him and worshipped him .Lord Buddhas Victory against Man and Beast was alike and here too May the Powers of his

Victory be bestowed upon us .

Meaning -

Lord Buddha set out in all directions of ancient India preaching his Vision and Reliving all beings from suffering forever. On such an occasion he met once again a ferocious man called "Angulimala "

who had cut out the fingers of the people whom he met and was racing to kill his mother

who was coming in search of him.

Buddha went between them and defeated his Rage and prevented his mother from being killed with

compassion and kindness.Thus Lord's victory and his Powers of Victory be bestowed upon us.

Chintaya Dutta Wacahanan

Janakaya Majje,

Santhena Soma Vidhina

Jithawa Munindho,

Than Thejasa Bawathu Thee , Jayamangalanee.


Meaning -

The Forces and followers of Evil did not give up the battle against our Lord the Buddha.

On one occasion a beautiful maiden known as Chincha came before Lord in the presence of

a Large gathering of Lay People and accused Lord Buddha of her pregnancy.

Lord Buddha did not heed to her accusations. Here too he carried through his glorious victory

over all the cunning and vicious sins. May we too be soothed by his magic Power and his

Powers of Victory be bestowed upon us.


Sachchan Vihaya Mathischaka

Wada Kethun,

Wadabhiro Pithamanan

Iddhibi san kathamano

Than Thejasa Bawathu The Jayamangalanee.


Meaning -


 The next attempt came when a mighty Sage of that Era called Schchaka with all his warrior's rage

blinded with an envious heart of enmity seeking Lord Buddha to debate and Win. All his efforts to defeat Buddha with False Facts were defeated by Buddha and routed the envious

crew.of Sages.

Thus the Buddha the Enlightened one, once again became victorious, and May his Powers of Victory

be bestowed upon us.


Nandopa Nanda Bujagan

Vibhudan Mahiddhin ,

Puththena Thera Bujagena

Dama Payantho,

Iddhupa desha Vidina

Jithawa Munindo,

Than Thejasa Bawathu The Jayamangalanee.


Meaning -


  Even to the demons and Serpants he made the Truth of the Universe very Clear, fearlessly

The Serpent King Nandopananda came with his followers to defeat the Buddha the Exalted one. The

Buddha with his un- challengeable Supernatural Powers defeated him too.

May this power of Victory too be bestowed upon us .


Duggaha Ditti Bujagena

Suddatta Haththan,

Brahaman Vissudhi Juthimiddi

Bakabhi Danan,

Iddhupa desa Vidina

Jithawa Munindo ,

Than Thejasa Bawathu Thee Jayamangalanee.


Meaning -

 Even after the Glorious Victory of attaining Buddhahood, those enemies who hated Wisdom

and light came up against our Lord.

Such was the Baka Brahma God with wrong beliefs who came to debate with him ,but was defeated

with his wrong visions , with Dhamma and wisdom and he too was relieved of the suffering of birth

and Death. May his victorious Powers be bestowed upon us.
